Radio star

Hertfordshire postman and workplace coach Michael Praide is demonstrating the important role he plays in his community.
Michael, who works at our International Logistics Centre (ILC) is already an ‘appropriate adult’ with Hertfordshire Youth Justice Service, ensuring children who are suspected of a criminal offence are treated in a fair and just manner.
But he has now turned his hand to radio and has recently gained his broadcasting accreditation, which means he is able to produce and transmit to air live radio.
‘Having recently undertaken a "presenter boot camp" with 92.6FM Radio Verulam (St Albans), I now have my own Monday drive time radio show,’ he said.
’Many moons ago while on work experience at Windsor Royal Theatre, I met none other than Nicholas Lyndhurst of Only Fools and Horses fame and Matthew Kelly from Game for a Laugh.
‘I remember speaking to both actors about what it was like being part of the performing arts industry. Armed with their enthusiasm and positivity, the green shoot was planted. Deep down I always knew I was never going to be a great banker or leviathan of business; dyslexia made sure of that, but on the other hand, give me an audience, a microphone and some subject matter and I'm on a roll.
‘Radio allows me to engage with a wide section of the community about the things they’re passionate about and involved in, including events. It’s this kind of thing that can be the very fabric of any given local area.
‘I recently spoke to the people at Keech Hospice Care about all the amazing work they do to help children with life-threatening illnesses, and Hertfordshire Asian Women’s Association (HAWA) about their fantastic herb garden and the work they’re doing to improve the confidence and English language skills of the women they support to help them reach their full potential.
‘It’s a really humbling opportunity to interview and meet all the people who make our community tick. My next big guest is “Magician X” From Britain's Got Talent.’
