An inspiration to us all
This week is Carers Week 2019, an annual campaign driven by leading UK charities and organisations to raise awareness of the incredible work carers do, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities across the UK.
There are around 6.5 million carers across the UK, supporting loved ones who are elderly, disabled or seriously ill. These include many of our own people, who balance parental and caring responsibilities with their careers.
Administrator, Helena Cutler, is a carer for her son who has multiple hidden disabilities, and also works full-time in our Fleet Team. Press play on the above video to see how we thanked her.
Area Fleet maintenance manager, Tony Whitehead, said: ‘Helena is a lovely person – she’s very kind, she’s very helpful. She’s an inspiration to us all. She has a difficult home life but she balances that well so she deserves a bit of thanks.’
You can also click here to watch how team leader, Lisa Wharton, thanked ‘superwoman’ Emma Capes from Stoke contact centre, who combines work with caring for one of her two young sons.
Parents & Carers
Our Parents & Carers steering group advocates for carers and offers support to those who need it. We aim to help colleagues with caring responsibilities balance these duties with their day-to-day working life.
We can help direct you to where you can obtain support with formal flexible working requests and approvals as well as advice on the types of flexible working available.
To contact the Parents & Carers steering group, please email: Parents.and.Carers@Royalmail.com. Similarly, if you would like to join the group or you have any positive stories about how you as a parent or carer have been supported by the business, please get in touch!
