Engineer your career
Our advanced Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme has received approval from the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Europe’s largest membership organisation for engineers and technicians.
That means our apprentices can apply for professional registration at ‘EngTech’ level with the Engineering Council once they complete our apprenticeship scheme.
EngTech is a globally recognised level of professional registration for engineering technicians. It is a formal recognition of engineering skills and competence and an important stepping stone towards becoming an incorporated engineer or a chartered engineer.
Play the RMtv video above to hear how maintenance engineer Steve Collins, from Home Counties North Mail Centre, found the scheme.
‘You learn so much on the scheme,’ said Steve. ‘How to take things apart and how things work. And you meet a really good bunch of people, who become your friends for life.
‘My favourite machine is the parcel sorting machine. Parcels are the future for Royal Mail so to get that machine running as best as it can is my priority.
‘I’d really recommend the scheme to young people – it’s life-changing. I couldn’t recommend it enough, to be honest.’
On an average day, we sort a staggering 58 million items. Getting each item where it needs to be is a complex, logistical challenge – one that we need our engineers to help solve.
Our engineering apprenticeship will see our apprentices use the cutting-edge technology needed to deliver a first-class service. They will cover everything from high-tech robotics to intelligent sorting machines. Further opportunities to continue to higher-level apprenticeships are then available, offering a fantastic career in engineering.
