Brace yourselves

The UK is set for some pretty hot and humid weather this week, with the possibility of record-breaking temperatures, according to the Met Office.
After a very wet and thundery start for many of us, Britain is set to bask in record-breaking temperatures towards the end of the week, as a hot air mass rising from North Africa drifts across Europe.
After we’ve all dried off, Wednesday and Thursday are set to be the hottest days of the year so far with the mercury hitting at least 31C in many parts of the country. So, if you’re working outdoors, remember to follow the five simple steps below to protect yourself from sunstroke and the risk of skin cancer, which is now the second most common cancer in the UK.
- Cover up: Wear loose, cool clothing to keep the sun off your skin. Wear a hat, preferably with a wide brim, and sunglasses
- Seek shade: Whenever possible, particularly during your breaks
- Use sunscreen: Use SPF 30 or higher on any exposed skin. Apply it half an hour before going outside and reapply frequently
- Avoid dehydration: Drink plenty of water preferably before you begin to feel thirsty
- Be skin safe: Early treatment is important. Report mole changes (size, shape, colour, itching or bleeding) to your doctor as soon as possible – don’t put it off!
