Two wins, one ceremony

Royal Mail mental health and wellbeing programmes recognised with IIRSM double win

Royal Mail scooped an incredible double win at the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) Risk Excellence Awards.

The ceremony, which was held at Church House in the grounds of The Houses of Parliament, saw us win both awards we were shortlisted for:

  • The Change Programme of the Year award, for our ‘Because Healthy Minds Matter’ mental health campaign.
  • The Health and Wellbeing Strategy of the Year award, for our ‘Feeling First Class’ colleague wellbeing programme.

Dr Shaun Davis, Global Director of Safety, Health, Wellbeing & Sustainability, accepted the awards on behalf of Royal Mail Group – play the video to hear is verdict.

The IIRSM awards are independent, recognising innovative individuals, teams and organisations responsible for implementing best practice in managing risks and opportunities.

The Change Programme of the Year award recognises a team or organisation that has ‘achieved a common objective through effectively managing risks and opportunities to successfully implement a programme.’

The judges looked for:

  • How leadership has driven the programme across the organisation
  • Evidence of the benefits created by the programme and how these have been successfully integrated into the organisation
  • How proactively risks were overcome and opportunities maximised during the period of the programme and what were the outcomes.

The Health and Wellbeing Strategy of the Year award recognises employers which have ‘a clear health and wellbeing strategy that is both preventative and proactive in approach, and is at the centre of the organisation.’

The judges looked for:

  • A strategy that focuses on both physical and mental health wellbeing
  • How leadership has driven the strategy across the organisation
  • How the strategy has been effectively integrated within day to day operations.

For both awards, entries were open to all and could be submitted by individuals, teams and organisations. A supporting reference from a client, customer, manager, or other relevant stakeholder was required.

Dr Shaun said: ‘I was delighted when we were awarded the first award at the start of the awards ceremony, and had just calmed myself down, when I was called back to the stage to receive a second win!

‘I am so proud that a prestigious judging panel of 15 people recognised our work on mental health and our commitment to the wellbeing of our people.’
