Huge congratulations to our most recent Group Legal member Joe Walsh, who was admitted as a solicitor today.

After Joe joined the Group Legal team as a paralegal in August 2016, he wasencouraged to apply for a training contract to qualify as a solicitor the following year. Both Joe and our other trainee, Janani Rathakrishnan — who will qualify as a solicitor in October —were successful.

Assistant general counsel, Toni Lyng, said: ‘We ensured that Joe obtained very good experience across Group Legal, where he spent time with our commercial and strategic transactions teams. He also spent five months on secondment to Bristows, a specialist intellectual property law firm.

‘Royal Mail Group typically only offer one training contract every two years, but we made an exception and took two 18 months ago as Joe and Jan were so impressive.

‘Joe will be admitted as a solicitor on 3 June and we are delighted to announce that he has accepted the offer of a permanent contract as a newly qualified commercial solicitor with Group Legal.’

‘I am incredibly proud to have achieved my goal of qualifying as a solicitor,’ said Joe. ‘It’s great that the hard work has paid off! I am delighted to have been offered a junior lawyer position at Royal Mail and am now looking forward to my new role, and the breadth of experience that I know this will bring.’
