Healthy minds matter
This week’s Mental Health Awareness Week, gives us the opportunity to think about our own, and other’s wellbeing.
One in four of us are affected by poor mental health. Through our mental health strategy, ongoing awareness campaigns and mental health charity partnerships, we are committed to improving the conversation and support offered to colleagues around mental health issues.
In October 2017, we launched our ‘Because Healthy Minds Matter’ mental health strategy, with its four core aims:
- increase awareness of mental health
- decrease the stigma associated with mental health
- signpost colleagues to useful tools and support
- and ensure our people know where to go in a crisis.
Everyone has a role to play. We can all make a difference to someone with a mental health condition by remembering the ACT acronym:
- Acknowledge - If you or someone close to you isn’t their ‘normal’ self
- Communicate - If you’re not feeling okay, speak to someone about it. If you’re worried about someone, ask them if they are okay and encourage them to talk. Take the time to listen
- Take action - Find out what support is available and encourage others to do the same.
By implementing the ACT steps, you can play a key role in improving mental health, not just at work but more widely.
Our Everyday People film, produced by Royal Mail in collaboration with Action for Children, Mind and Mental Health UK, aims to highlight the everyday occurrence of mental health issues among people of all age groups.
