Vote 100

Her wisdom and leadership skills are reasons enough why assistant general counsel, Toni Lyng, has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.

Martin Gafsen, Group director of Property & Facilities Solutions, said: ‘Toni is the head of Property Legal and our assistant general counsel. Over 12 years we have acquired much real estate, agreed many, many leases and entered into countless construction and commercial contracts.

‘Toni has ensured that Royal Mail’s position has been legally protected or optimised throughout this series of transactions, some being very complex. Toni makes our property activities happen.

‘The Property team enjoy a close working relationship with Property Legal and this is because of Toni’s great leadership and wisdom, which she willingly shares with us. Toni deserves to be recognised as part of the Vote 100 campaign.’

‘I really enjoy dealing with Martin and the team- working together, we have delivered a lot of deals to the business over the years,’ said Toni.

‘I know that my job is a very interesting one for an in-house lawyer- and Royal Mail is without doubt, a very interesting company. I’ve been given (or I have spotted) opportunities over the years which very often resulted in fascinating work and I have never found my job to be boring. 

‘Sometimes I have to give advice, which can be unwelcome, if it identifies risks and problems. But I always try to focus on ironing out those problems and moving things along to enable the deal to be completed.

‘I feel very lucky that I am surrounded by a great team, with talented and supportive colleagues. The job often isn’t easy, but the people around me are wonderful - and that makes a huge difference.’
