From Beb to Brid

Ellesmere Port postwoman, Melinda Citrine, is halfway through a 140-mile sponsored swim in aid of childhood cancer charity, Neuroblastoma UK.
Melinda’s epic swim was inspired by her cousin’s four-year-old boy Ronnie, who has Neuroblastoma and is currently undergoing treatment at Leeds General Infirmary.
‘I’m swimming from Beb to Brid,’ said Melinda. It’s approximately 140 miles between Bebington, where I live, and Bridlington, where Ronnie lives – but in the relative comfort of my local swimming pool!’
‘While I was away for a city break in Budapest at the beginning of March, I swam 2.5 km in the Szechenyi thermal spa. And so far, I've swum around 70 miles so I'm halfway there! I estimate that I'll finish in July, maybe August. I'm thinking of swimming the last mile in the swimming pool in Bridlington.’
On average, every week, two families in the UK will learn that their child has neuroblastoma. The stated aim of Neuroblastoma UK is to find a cure for the disease through funding leading research projects to deliver new and effective treatments for these children.
‘Ronnie is doing amazingly well so far,’ said Melinda. ‘I want to raise as much money as possible to support research into this terrible illness - for Ronnie and for all children affected by Neuroblastoma.’
