‘Most recognised brand’
The UK is the most competitive parcels delivery market in Europe, with the continued boom in e-commerce responsible for generating two in every three parcels sent in the UK.
As consumers and businesses continue to shift their preferences to online sales, retailers of all sizes have to work harder to stay relevant. Royal Mail Group is proud to be the delivery partner of choice for many of these businesses.
Three of our main competitors are DPD, Hermes and Yodel. DPD is known for advanced technology and offering market-leading options for receiving customers, such as the provision of a one-hour delivery window.
Hermes is investing over the next three years in better technology and network infrastructure. They have a new app and website, ‘in-flight’ parcel diversion and real-time notifications.
Yodel offers lower cost delivery services to businesses and consumers. The company state that they are focusing on improving quality of service, including investing in semi-automatic sortation and expanding their Click and Collect network.
UK and International parcels specialist James Mason, said: ‘Some of our competitors can offer more of a one-stop shop. I’m thinking more about Sunday deliveries, delivering larger items weighing 40kg upwards, and potential imports from other countries. Basically, really putting that logistical umbrella over a business.’
In terms of how colleagues can help, James said: ‘Just continue to maintain the really high quality of standards that we do day in, day out. Customer experience is key in today’s market, especially against our competitors. And one thing that can’t be rivalled is our postmen and postwomen’s relationship with that end consumer.’
Top 20 ‘superbrand’
Royal Mail has been named in the top 20 of Britain’s business ‘superbrands’. We spoke to some of our customers to find out what they like about the Royal Mail brand and why it makes them choose us over some of our rivals.
Gemma Norwood, despatch co-ordinator, Activate, said: ‘I use Royal Mail to get our products to our business customers quickly. I like the First-Class service. I don’t think you get that with other carriers unless you’re paying quite a premium. Royal Mail are the only end-to-end aren’t they? All the other carriers use Royal Mail at the end of the day anyway.’
Natasha Davison, office manager, Infinite AV, said: ‘It’s mainly sending parts out last-minute to site. A good example was last week, when I sent a TV cable out that the engineers had forgotten. I took it the Post Office around 2pm and it arrived the next day in the morning, which we were really surprised about.’
Scott Tunnicliffe, recycling lead, Regenerate, said: ‘It’s a trusted brand. It’s one I’ve grown up with. It’s probably one of the most recognised, if not the most recognised brand growing up as a child in the UK.’
