World Book Day

Competition alert, as British children’s authors honoured on special postboxes

On World Book Day, we have unveiled four special edition postboxes across the UK honouring some of Britain’s most popular children’s authors. And to celebrate, we’re giving away £50 worth of book vouchers – see below for details.

The postboxes are adorned in quotes from some of the best-loved work of writers David Walliams, Judith Kerr, C.S. Lewis and Frances Hodgson Burnett. They are located close to places of significance to either the writers or their work, and will be decorated for a month.

According to our latest research, which reveals Britain’s enduring love affair with physical books, more than half (56%) of UK adults expressed an intent to read more in 2019, while just one in 10 readers claim to exclusively use e-readers.

David Walliams, children’s author, said: ‘I am honoured that my books are featured on this special postbox. I am an advocate of letter writing. Letters are so much more meaningful than a text or email. So, I hope this encourages children to use their local postbox.

The postboxes are situated in the following locations:

  • David Walliams (Natural History Museum, London): 19 Cromwell Place, London, SW7 5BD. The Museum features in David’s book ‘The Ice Monster’
  • C.S. Lewis (Belfast): 4 Wellington Place, Belfast, BT1 6GE. C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast
  • Frances Hodgson Burnett (Manchester): 19 Princess Street, Manchester, M1 4DA. Hodgson Burnett was born in Manchester
  • Judith Kerr (Barnes, London): Barnes High Street, London, SW13 9LF. Judith Kerr still lives in Barnes.
