‘Events like this give us the opportunity to hear first-hand what issues need addressing’

Gary Simpson, managing director, Parcelforce Worldwide, took part in an RMtv live session at the Parcelforce Worldwide National Hub.

Colleagues based in Coventry asked a number of questions ranging from the future growth strategy for the business to advances in technology, and investments in infrastructure to cater for the ever-changing dynamics and competitiveness of the marketplace.

Questions were also posed on matters of a more personal nature – such as the expected timeline for implementing the new CDC pension scheme, the Royal Mail Group share price, and availability of electric car charging points for personal vehicles on Parcelforce sites.

‘It’s always good to come out to sites and spend time with the teams on the ground,’ said Gary. ‘Events like this give us the opportunity to hear first-hand what issues need addressing.

‘Perhaps the most key message came from the question on the share price and its potential recovery. For every colleague in the business, it’s in their gift to help management implement our growth strategy, leverage our investments in technology and focus on delivering the service our customers expect. When that happens, we attract more business and earn more revenue, which in turn will increase market confidence in our business and push the share price back up.’

National Hub operative, Surjeet Takhar, found the session very interesting and useful. ‘We used WTLL sessions to gather questions from colleagues across all shifts at both the National and International Hubs as well as farther afield,’ he said. ‘Gary’s answers gave us far more insight into the business, which is much appreciated.’

International Hub customer services manager, John Southam, agreed that the event had been very informative. ‘It was very nice of Gary to spend the time at the hubs, answering the questions we put to him directly, especially the spontaneous questions from the floor,’ said John.

‘I’m also grateful to have an RMtv production about Parcelforce, rather than the usual programmes that are far more Royal Mail-focused. ‘It will be good for our colleagues to see and hear more about the business they work for.’

‘I thought it was great,’ commented Jon Jessop, acting manager, National Hub. ‘It’s not every day you get the head of the business coming in, giving colleagues the chance to ask questions on things that really matter to them. Getting answers from Gary himself was brilliant.’

‘I felt we got a lot of feedback from Gary on things that many people wanted to know,’ added Heather Stokes, from Customer Services, International Hub. ‘I am confident about the business and feel proud to work for Parcelforce.’
