Perfect pooch

Every dog owner thinks their beloved pet is a star, but in Sarah Walker’s case that’s actually true.
The Immingham postwoman is the proud owner of Kneesaa, a two-year-old Boston Terrier, who’s won first place at dog shows up and down the country.
The prize-winning pooch now has 10 titles to her name – including winning the Junior Bitch class at Crufts last year.
Sarah trains with Kneesaa every Sunday at ringcraft classes where dogs are taught the skills they’ll need to impress show judges such as agility, poise and good temperament.
‘I’m always nervous before a show, but when I’m in the ring I concentrate on Kneesaa,’ said Sarah. ‘If she wins I feel elated, but if she doesn’t it’s still a good day out.
‘I started out doing local shows as a bit of fun, and found I really enjoyed it. It’s fairly easy to get into and over the years I’ve made a lot of friends in my breed category. There’s a big social side to it, which is really nice.’
Sarah has a second Boston called Revan, who also competes. Although many people picture show dogs as perfect pampered pets, Sarah insists that at home, Kneesaa and Revan are just normal dogs.
‘All they need before a show is a bath, a brush and a good meal,’ she said. ‘People often think show dogs can’t get dirty and have a life outside the competition, but they’re pets before they enter the ring. Mine have regular walks out in the fields where they can get all muddy, and they love it. What you see at Crufts is just one side of them!’
