Higher power

Colleagues in Wrexham have taken a step in the right direction with the delivery of a new sorting platform.
Many of the team were having trouble prepping the top row of their delivery frame as they were unable to comfortably reach customer’s mail without putting themselves at risk of injury.
Pictured above is Wrexham postwoman, Belinda Jones, trialling the new equipment with great success.
‘As I'm only 4ft 10ins the top row of the frame is difficult for me to reach my mail and particularly, the very top of the frame where the parcels go,’ said Belinda. ‘Previously, I’ve had shoulder pains and aches and sometimes back trouble from having to constantly reach and stretch.
‘I had a nasty fall down some stairs two and half years ago, which caused a bleed on my brain and has left me with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Having to look up and tilt my head back so often can make me really dizzy.
‘Hopefully the step will help stop these issues. It's so much easier putting the parcels on the top of the frame now. I can put them neatly in place instead of leaving them in a mess or at risk of falling on my head.’
Wrexham delivery office manager, Rich Thomas, said: ‘We have needed a platform like this for a while now as many of the team are under 5ft 8ins. It had got to the point where colleagues were using trays to reach the top rows of the frames when prepping the mail.
‘The equipment is light and easy to manoeuvre due to the wheels. It’s also nice and stable when stood on due to the mechanism and anti-slip covering.’
