CWU-grade pay increase

Despite very difficult trading conditions

Eligible full-time and part-time CWU-grade colleagues* will receive a pay increase of 2% from 1 April 2019.

The Pay, Pensions and Pipeline Agreement set out a 5% pay increase from October 2017 and a 2% pay increase from 1 April 2019. We are implementing the 2% pay increase, despite the very difficult trading conditions we are facing right now.

We still have work to do. We need to work together to improve quality and productivity.

The details

  • Eligible full-time and part-time CWU-grade colleagues will receive an increase of 2% on basic pay rates or salary, basic pay supplements, skills and unsocial hours allowances, London weighting and Scottish Distant Islands allowance, overtime and scheduled attendance rates.
  • The increase will be implemented on 1 April 2019 for weekly and monthly paid colleagues.

What we have already done, as part of the Agreement

  • Launched new Latest Acceptance Times product
  • Introduced Network Revision
  • One-hour reduction to the working week from October 2018
  • Over 60 cultural visits with CWU

We have achieved a major step forward on pensions

  • As previously announced, HM Government has committed to legislate for Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) pensions at the earliest opportunity. This brings us one step closer to introducing a CDC pension for Royal Mail colleagues as soon as possible.

But we still have more to do

  • Ongoing trials of new technologies and processes to meet market demands
  • Improving quality, productivity and financial performance.

*The agreement applies to employees in CWU represented grades in Core Operations, Logistics (excluding RM Fleet), Engineers, RMSS, Royal Mail International and Parcelforce Worldwide. It does not apply to Unite-represented grades. A separate agreement has been finalised between Fleet and Maintenance services and the CWU.
