Cut above the rest

Open for business – Anthony cuts the ribbon at customer’s Pilates studio opening ceremony

Postman Anthony Roberts made the cut when a customer invited him to help officially open her new Pilates studio.

Anthony, from Garstang delivery office in Preston, has been with us for more than 24 years. After initially gaining experience with a number of different rounds in the district, Anthony eventually got his own permanent round in the village of Great Eccleston.

Over the years, the good people of Great Eccleston, have come to see Anthony as a friend rather than someone who simply delivers their mail.

One such resident, a Claire McCarthy was about to open a new ‘Pilates and Wellness’ studio in the centre of town.

‘Mrs McCarthy decided that seeing as her new studio was on the site of the old Post Office, it would be very appropriate if her local postman were to mark the official opening of the studio with a ribbon-cutting ceremony,’ said Anthony.

‘When she invited me, I said I would be delighted to oblige. On the weekend of the event I was really impressed by the number of people who came to witness the ceremony. My colleagues were at first, surprised that I had accepted the role, but then seemed pleased that I had done so - anything to raise the profile of Royal Mail.’
