Wheels in motion

It’s team spirit, good communication and a strong work ethic that makes St Albans, one of the many workshops at the heart of our award-winning Fleet team, such a success.
The workshop features four bays, two fleet support vehicles (FSVs) and an 11-strong workshop team that includes two apprentices.
The workshop has its own MOT ramp. As well as dealing with MOTs, the team repairs engines and accidental damage to vehicles in our own fleet, as well as carrying out a lot of commercial work.
Mechanic and MOT specialist John Shearer has been at the workshop a year. ‘There are good opportunities at Royal Mail and I love working at St Albans,’ he said. ‘The atmosphere within the team is great.’
Shift manager Steve Hayne, says camaraderie and a willingness by team members to help each other out are key to the workshop thriving.
‘There’s a clear system at St Albans that everyone understands, and colleagues will cover each other’s work when required,’ he said. ‘I have three or four guys who are capable of booking vehicles in and delegating work.
'I would say it’s clear communication and the camaraderie here that creates such a good working atmosphere.’
