Celebrating our amazing Royal Mail women – Caroline McCusker

Her professionalism and determination to push herself are just two reasons why cost transformation business partner, Caroline McCusker, has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.

Andy Higgins, senior insight analyst and benefits tracking manager, said: ‘From my experience of working both with and for Caroline, she has never shied away from a challenge.

‘Caroline can’t do enough to support her colleagues and uses her experience and expertise to develop and influence those around her to make the right commercial decisions for the business.

‘She takes time to understand every area she works with and she’s always looking to push herself beyond her comfort zones. Her ability to react quickly in a positive manner to whatever situation she faces is testament to both her character and professionalism.’

‘I am honoured to be recognised in this campaign among so many fantastic women,’ said Caroline. ‘I started at Royal Mail back in 2002 as a “summer casual” and 17 years later, I haven’t looked back.

‘I recall my mum saying in the early days “you need to get yourself a real job!” We both laugh now, recognising how much I’ve achieved throughout my working life here. Royal Mail provides such great opportunity for personal and professional development, but it’s the people who make the business what it is.

‘I have personally experienced local change from my early postwoman days and now I’m privileged to be leading it; this path is fundamental to how I approach my work today. I try to maintain a healthy sense of humour with my colleagues, focusing on explaining the “why” behind every change and instilling the importance of being personable, no matter who I’m working with.

‘I am passionate about business improvements and supporting others with transformation, but particularly, working with teams to achieve their goals. Seeing successful change implemented with great engagement makes me proud of the part my team and I have played. My team are fantastic.

‘I genuinely don’t think I could gain the skills, scale or indeed challenges, provided by Royal Mail, anywhere else. These have shaped me as a professional female today. It is very easy to forget that.  Like many others, I see what I do as just “my job.”’
