Vote 100

Her dedication and tremendous work ethic are reasons enough why fulfilment manager, Lisa Bain, from the Scottish distribution centre (SDC), has been nominated for our Vote 100 recognition campaign.
Network optimisation manager, Graham McEwan, from the SDC, said: ‘Lisa works as the fulfilment manager dealing mostly with Amazon for Royal Mail Logistics.
‘Lisa has been fully involved in planning the Logistics for the launches of Amazon Prime, Direct Injections (DI) and Direct Delivery Units (DDU), all of which were significant projects that continue to grow.
‘DI involves Amazon sorting the mail for a specific mail centre, bypassing the need for us to sort the mail at our distribution centres. DDU involves Amazon sites sorting the mail down to delivery office level. Yorks are brought in to mail centres and loaded on to smaller vehicles which then go to delivery offices. All these projects have brought in a considerable amount of extra work and revenue for the business.
‘Lisa is somehow able to manage her work-life balance to a high standard despite being the mum of two young boys and having a husband who as a member of the armed forces, isn’t always at home due to his work.
‘I hold Lisa up in very high regards and when I see new younger female managers starting their journey in the business, I will always tell them about Lisa and encourage them to make contact with her so that they can learn from someone who has really worked hard all the way through their career with Royal Mail to where she is now.’
Lisa has worked for Royal Mail for 21 years, having joined the business as a 19-year-old temp. She said: ‘I started at Royal Mail as a stop gap between college and university. I enjoyed working at the SDC so much that I applied for a full-time administrative role.
‘From 1997-2003 I went on to become the PA for the SDC management team and was responsible for liaising with customers on a daily basis. During this period I applied and received Royal Mail sponsorship from our then director and attained a BA Business degree while working full-time.
‘After working as an inbound new business advisor in our local sales centre I became an account manager where I managed a portfolio of key business customers via the telephone and was responsible for growing revenue.
‘Between 2006 and 2009, I managed a team of new business sales managers and was accountable for winning new business across all of Royal Mail’s retail product streams. My team were shortlisted for the “Best Example of Teamwork Award” at the National Sales Awards 2008/09.
‘In 2010 I became the business customer advisor back at the SDC where I stayed for the next seven years and was responsible for all Scottish business customers by acting as a "voice of the customer".
‘I became the leave cover for the fulfilment manager role, which is a national role, at the start of 2017, and when the role became vacant in May, I applied and was successful. This is a demanding yet challenging role and it takes a lot of energy, hard work and commitment in an ever-changing business.
‘I would like to thank Graham McEwan for my nomination. To me, I’m “just doing my job,” but I suppose with any job you forget what you are actually achieving. I could not do my job successfully without the national support I receive.’
