Seeds of change

Ensuring vulnerable orphans in India and Africa have the right to a decent childhood

Collection sector manager, Gagandeep Rai, from Nottingham mail centre, and his partner, Malika Williams, have chosen to raise money and awareness for local charity, Abraham’s Seed.

Gagandeep and Malika’s love of mountaineering inspired them to climb Mount Säntis - which at 2,501.9 metres above sea level is the highest mountain in the Alpstein massif of north-eastern Switzerland - to raise money in aid of the countless abandoned and vulnerable children, living in orphanages in Africa and India.

Abraham’s Seed has been actively involved in raising awareness of the issues affecting vulnerable children in Cote D'Ivoire, building a relationship with a school in Zikisso and an orphanage in Dimbokro and collecting clothes, toys, shoes and other items to ship to the organisations on the ground.

‘We decided that we would raise money for this small, local charity as we both feel our own hobby could be used as a platform to aid children, who are unfortunate not to have the right family foundations in early life,’ said Gagandeep.

‘Abraham’s Seed looks to encourage children to put education first and seek prosperous careers for themselves supported by the workers at the orphanages.

‘We will be attempting our highest climb to date on Mount Säntis in April and we feel it's a great opportunity to help young individuals who are in far greater need than we are!

‘Please help us raise £1,000 for Abraham's Seed. We would also very much welcome any donations of clothes, stationary or toys.’
