Postman Nick makes headlines after proposing over a cup of tea and a sausage roll in Greggs

A Wolverhampton postman caught the attention of romantics across the nation after asking for his partner’s hand in marriage – in a branch of bakery chain, Greggs!

Nick Sawyer, from North West Midlands mail centre, popped the question to his partner of two years, Carolyn Bennett just minutes after buying a diamond ring.

‘I had just been in the jeweller next door, and afterwards we went into Greggs and had a cup of tea and a sausage roll,’ he said. ‘We had talked about marriage, so it was just a case of when the proposal was going to happen.

‘While we were in Greggs I pulled out the ring and said, “Sshall I put it on now?”’

Nick’s opportunism led to much more than a ‘yes’ from his now fiancée Carolyn – it also attracted media interest with the story covered by The Sun, Metro and Express and Star newspapers.

Royal MailWe will play a big role in spreading romance this Valentine's Day - with love letters, cards and even flowers being sent in the post.

Nick’s story is just one of many romantic moments for our people. In next week’s RMtv we’ll hear from couples who met at Royal Mail.
