Local Cupid

Shirli Valentine is used to playing Cupid in Winton, Bournemouth, every February

With the season of love well and truly upon us, the community of Winton, near Bournemouth, has its very own Cupid in the form of postwoman, Shirli Valentine.

As she prepares to deliver scores of Valentine’s Day cards and love letters this week, Shirli, who has worked for Royal Mail for 15 years, genuinely enjoys her designated role of spreading the love in the local community.

‘I’m always kept very busy around Valentine’s Day, as cards in particular are very popular on my route,’ she said. ‘It’s nice to know that I’m seen as a local cupid of sorts!’

Wednesday 13 February is officially the last Royal Mail posting date before Valentine’s Day for First Class stamps, and Tuesday 12 for Second Class.

We play a big role in spreading romance this Valentine’s Day – with love letters, cards and even flowers being sent in the post.

While love is in the air across the country, we’ve also been hearing how Royal Mail has fixed romance for our very own colleagues. Watch this week’s programme for more.
