Let it snow

Parts of the country may have resembled a winter wonderland in recent days – but that’s not stopped us delivering for our customers

Customers have been quick to praise the work we do to deliver across the country, in spite of challenging weather conditions.

Yellow weather warnings were put in place last week with an snow and ice gripping the UK.

Our colleagues were put to the test in difficult conditions – but stepped up once more for our customers, who shared their praise on social media.

One wrote: ‘My mum lost her wedding ring over a week ago and the postman found it on the driveway in the snow’. And another commented: ‘Your posties are hard core,’ alongside a picture of a delivery taking place in thick snow.

In next week’s RMtv we join colleagues out on delivery in Buxton – the market town with the highest elevation above sea level in England – to see how they dealt with heavy snowfall.

Remember to stay safe in adverse weather conditions. Please follow these steps when walking in ice and snow conditions:

  • Wear safety boots rather than shoes to support your ankles
  • Ensure you always take your ice grippers/spikeys
  • Use them when snow or compacted ice is deep enough to allow them to penetrate and grip
  • Do not use them when driving, indoors or when there is only a thin layer of snow or ice
  • Be aware of kerb edges, potholes and uneven surfaces that may be hidden by snow
  • Plan ahead, assess your route and take small steps. Only access areas if it is safe to do so
  • Anticipate ice. Areas that appear wet may be black ice, approach with caution
  • When entering buildings, do so slowly. Melted ice and snow may make the floor wet and slippery
  • Be seen. Wear appropriate warm, waterproof, hi-visibility clothing.
