Leading the way

Our work to address poor mental health among colleagues with new well-being initiatives, has been recognised at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Awards 2019.
The independent awards benchmark and celebrate the great work of employers leading the way in employee wellbeing.
Dr Shaun Davis, director of safety, health, wellbeing and sustainability was presented with the Wellbeing Vanguard Award for ‘in-house HR, reward, benefits or wellbeing practitioners who are leading the way in how they implement and champion wellbeing within their organisations.’
The size, scale and nature of Royal Mail Group can mean that delivering new well-being initiatives is both complicated and complex.
Shaun and his team know that poor mental health was an issue for some colleagues, but to address that meant breaking down the stigma of talking openly about mental health issues and equipping colleagues with the means to discuss such matters.
Our work has involved colleagues, senior management, unions and other external bodies in creating an appropriate and meaningful programme that fits with his mantra of ‘Acknowledge, Communicate and Take Action.’
‘I am delighted to be recognised in this way by my peers,’ said Shaun. ‘I very much see it as a reflection of the commitment Royal Mail have to the health and well-being of our people and I was really proud to accept on behalf of all of us.’
