Yellow weather warnings

Snow and ice warnings are in place for parts of Scotland and all of England and Wales this week as cold, unsettled conditions bring the chances of disruptive snow to all parts of the UK.
The Met Office has warned that snow and ice are likely to continue to cause travel disruption across the country.
Four separate yellow weather warnings were issued on Tuesday covering most of the UK.
A band of wet weather that fell as rain, sleet or snow pushed from west to east during Tuesday morning, affecting Wales, northern England and Scotland. Throughout yesterday, the wintry weather moved across the Midlands and into the south-east.
A warning for snow and ice in Wales and the north and west of England came into force at midday yesterday. Another warning of potential heavy snowfall in the south-east, the Midlands and East Anglia has been in place since 9pm last night.
There is the risk of further disruptive snow and ice to parts of the country towards the end of the week, most likely affecting southern and central parts of the country.
Drivers in Scotland and northern England continue to face delays and police have urged motorists to take extra care and plan ahead.
During ice and snow conditions, colleagues completing outdoor duties are more at risk of suffering slip and trip-related injuries.
Please follow these steps when walking in ice and snow conditions:
- Wear safety boots rather than shoes to support your ankles
- Ensure you always take your ice grippers/spikeys
- Use them when snow or compacted ice is deep enough to allow them to penetrate and grip
- Do not use them when driving, indoors or when there is only a thin layer of snow or ice
- Be aware of kerb edges, potholes and uneven surfaces that may be hidden by snow
- Plan ahead, assess your route and take small steps. Only access areas if it is safe to do so
- Anticipate ice. Areas that appear wet may be black ice, approach with caution
- When entering buildings, do so slowly. Melted ice and snow may make the floor wet and slippery
- Be seen. Wear appropriate warm, waterproof, hi-visibility clothing.
