Vote 100

Her enthusiasm and humility are just two reasons why early shift manager, Lily Hemmens, from South Midlands mail centre, has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.
Postman, Nilesh Giga, from South Midlands mail centre, said: ‘Lily is always so enthusiastic and positive when communicating with the team. She always asks us for our input and ideas about how we can become more efficient at what we do, which really helps us feel valued.
‘I find Lily very down to earth and approachable. I think these qualities in a manager are essential for colleagues who might be dealing with health or personal issues, or those who need extra coaching in the workplace. Lily makes us feel that she is always on hand if we want to talk to her.
‘Lily started at Royal Mail as a graduate four years ago. I feel her management style is the future of the business. We definitely need more people like her!’
‘I love working for Royal Mail because I thrive when working in a fast-paced environment,’ said Lily. ‘I am very proud of my team, both past and present – they still surprise me every day with their suggestions and contributions towards becoming a more results-driven organisation and embracing change to achieve our safety, quality and efficiency targets.
‘I have worked at South Midlands mail centre for 18 months now, since making the leap from deliveries into processing. Recently, we have deployed a parcel sorting machine and it took us eight weeks as a mail centre to reach our target of processing five million items.
‘The volumes we process at South Midlands can be colossal, since it was created from the merger of four mail centres. However, it’s essential as a manager to stay calm and radiate positivity despite the daunting challenges we face.
‘My managers and frontline colleagues at Royal Mail have played a huge part in my professional development and I am extremely grateful for this. They have inspired me and imparted their knowledge, which I hope to share with future generations of male, female and graduate managers who wish to progress within the business. Thank you to all of you!’
