Something to celebrate

Putting safety first in Preston as colleagues achieve 1,000 accident-free days

The night shift at Preston mail centre has achieved an incredible 1,000 accident-free days.

Nightshift manager, Dave Ware, said: ‘The whole shift has worked really hard to achieve this and it’s something we’re all very proud of.

‘We’ve managed our 1,000 accident-free days with the aid of good communications and workplace coaches who truly want our people to be better.

‘The management team have been resolute in keeping safety at the forefront of everything we do and our postmen and women are both fully engaged and enthusiastic about working safely.

‘We certainly couldn’t have achieved this without the help of Pete Smith, Bob Wyper and Rasheed Dala, the nightshift CWU industrial relations and safety reps, as we’ve worked really well together to improve so many things on the shift particularly in regard to safety.’

To recognise their achievement, the team held a recognition evening, which included a day-off draw with five colleagues winning a free night off and five others winning various other prizes. This was their third recognition event where managers buy tea, coffee and cakes for all the team.
