Ravinder Singh – thank you for your amazing 40 years of fortitude

Postman Ravinder Singh, from Slough delivery office, celebrated 40 years with Royal Mail in November.

Having worked as a walking postman for 15 years, Ravinder unfortunately suffered multiple severe injuries when he was involved in a road traffic accident.

‘I was classed as having a permanent disability for life and was off work for four months,’ said Ravinder. ‘I had to undergo multiple operations including having a plate fitted to my left forearm as well as surgeries to my right wrist, thumb, shoulder, knee and leg.

‘Despite all these problems, I never gave up hope for the future. I missed the rapport with my colleagues and I wanted to get back into work as soon as possible.’

Ravinder’s right leg is now shorter than his left and he wears a raised shoe to compensate.

Delivery line manager, Ursula Sabir, said: ‘Ravinder returned to work after only four months off. He loved his job and really missed his colleagues. Even though he was offered a lump sum and retirement he refused. He still wanted to work for Royal Mail, in his words, in whatever capacity.

‘Ravinder is a hardworking, honest and decent gentleman. He is someone who clearly takes great pride in his job. It has been an absolute privilege working with him and having him as part of my team.

‘In short, Ravinder is a first-class member of the Slough office.’

When Ravinder returned to work, he moved to the addressograph office where he stayed for the next seven years before it moved to Greenford. He now does the office business replies, which also includes reporting colleagues’ driving hours and delivery reports.

‘Working for Royal Mail for the last 40 years has been a fantastic experience for me,’ said Ravinder. ‘I’m really grateful for all the help I’ve received in modifying my duty times around my health needs.

‘I feel very proud to work here and lucky that I both enjoy working for the business and love working with all my workmates.

‘The job helps to divert my mind from all the aches and pains I have, and I hope that I can continue working here for as long as possible. Thank you again Royal Mail for everything!’
