Reducing rubber refuse

Whether it’s collecting elastic bands or reusing water bottles, we all need to do more to protect the environment.
Although elastic bands are one of the many useful tools we use to help us deliver mail, they are also among the most harmful items we use on a daily basis.
Dropping reusable elastic bands in the streets is against the law. Discarded bands are also extremely damaging to our reputation, not to mention harmful to wildlife.
We need to take extra care with the elastic bands we use, particularly when on delivery. Save them in uniform pockets, or your delivery pouch or trolley, to ensure you can return them to your office for reuse.
We should all attempt to re-use elastic bands where possible. Selecting the right sized bands for the size of the mail bundle will help. This will save us money and help protect the environment.
It is also equally important that colleagues do what they can to reuse plastic cups and water bottles, and discard plastic waste in the appropriate recycling bins.
Remember, reusable plastic is helpful to our business. This includes letter trays and york bases.
