Rapid rise

Online retailer Velocity Outlet has changed enormously in the past six years, growing from a tiny two-man start-up to a multi-million-pound business.

But one thing has remained constant – Royal Mail has been there to ensure the company delivers for its customers.

Velocity Outlet co-owner PJ Scott said: ‘We wouldn’t be where we are today without Royal Mail. They’ve been really flexible and supportive all the way through.’

PJ and business partner, Eddie Latham, started Velocity Outlet from a garage. In the early days, Eddie took deliveries to his local post office every morning.

But as the business grew, and operations needed to be scaled up, we were there to help by tailoring collections to suit the company’s needs.

Today it dispatches 25,000 orders a month. Best-selling items include digital radios, dash cams, vacuum cleaners and water filters.

We deliver 80% of these orders and collect from the business’s Cambridge warehouse twice a day. Adrian Arbon, an MGV driver based at Cambridge mail processing unit, does the final collection and delivers it to Peterborough mail centre.

‘I’ve seen the company grow so much over the past few years,’ said Adrian. ‘It shows how important it is to look after small businesses because many of them will become big customers.

‘If you can maintain a friendly relationship it’s good for Royal Mail. We always do our best to be flexible.’

For Black Friday, our team stepped up collections to help the retailer move an impressive 6,300 orders in just one day.
