Paul’s story

The Blue’s Programme continues to provide early intervention mental health support to young people

Action for Children’s Blues Programme, funded by Royal Mail, continues to provide early intervention mental health support to young people.

The programme is for people aged between 13 and 19 years old who are suffering from, or who are at risk of developing, a mental health condition.

One of the young people helped by the Blues Programme is Paul. Paul is 17 years old. He has a difficult relationship with his parents and his negative feelings had been affecting all areas of his life, leaving him with low confidence and self-esteem. They had also led to suicidal attempts and thoughts.

Since taking part in the programme, Paul says he now feels more motivated to do positive activities such as spending time with friends, exercising and talking to others. He also feels better able to manage conflict and respond effectively to distressing situations.

The programme has helped change Paul's whole mindset. ‘The only time I spend time in my room now is when I’m going to sleep and I'm more open to talking about my problems,’ he said.
