Making life easier

The Employee Survey is a chance to tell the business what it’s like working for Royal Mail and what changes could improve your working life.
At Yate delivery office, the team all helped to put together an action plan on the back of last year’s survey.
One of the things that came out of the survey was a lack of space and a cluttered environment. Yate delivery office manager Michael Bower (pictured) explained: ‘We’re a small office and we have an ever-increasing number of parcels to sort.
‘We ran a session and asked people to put their ideas on post-it notes. We’ve been able to come up with an action plan to hopefully make everyone’s life easier. It is not necessarily about doing the big things but about knowing which small things are most important.’
Postman and workplace coach, Tony Haas said: ‘All the ideas that came out of the survey were put up on a board on the wall. So it’s there for us all to see what changes had been made and also for us to ask questions if nothing has been done.
‘Both the office and yard here are quite small so we needed to get the space less cluttered. We have doubled the number of drop bags so everyone has two, which means the flow of parcels is much quicker.
‘We have also improved the yard by making sure everyone parks in an allocated space so we get maximum use of the space.’
Postwoman, Jane Rogers, said: ‘We’ve moved frames around and that’s had a big impact on parcels. It’s less cluttered and we’re making the best of the space we have.’
Postwoman, Yvonne Langmead, added: ‘They took out the IPS frame to give us more room and put in a packet frame. Over Christmas it was a great benefit.’
