A forest full of Santas

Manchester ‘Delamere Santa Dash’ team raise an amazing £2,000 for the NSPCC helpline

Huge congratulations to the Royal Mail team who took part in the ‘Delamere Santa Dash’ in Delamere Forest, Cheshire.

The ask was to ‘fill the forest with Santas’ walking, jogging or running the 5K annual fun run around the trees and trails of Delamere Forest – and colleagues from Manchester mail centre duly obliged.

Chris Goodwin; Sharon, Mike and Scott Richards, Barrington Manderson, and Stuart Altham dressed as Santas and elves. They were rewarded for their efforts with a Christmas medal and a mince pie at the finish line, having raised a fantastic £2,000 for the NSPCC helpline, which is based in Salford.

The NSPCC helpline staff worked throughout the Christmas period answering calls from people with concerns about children known to them. Every call the NSPCC answers costs them £5. Calls to the helpline increased dramatically around the festive period with many of the calls taken focusing on the subject of child neglect. Thanks to the Delamere Santa Dash team, we raised enough money to answer 400 calls to the service. That’s 400 children we have helped!

Following the event, the NSPCC North West and Cumbria Facebook group posted: ‘Throughout the Christmas period calls to the helpline around neglect increase massively. There are many children out there who will not have a happy time this Christmas and the NSPCC helpline in Salford is working tirelessly to change this.

‘They couldn’t do this without the valuable help from the guys at Royal Mail. Thank you so much on behalf of us all at the NSPCC. £2,000 is enough to answer 400 calls to the helpline this Christmas.

‘You were great sports on the day and really got stuck in with your Christmas fancy dress. Thanks to everyone.’

Chris Goodwin’s wife, Cath, who also took part in the run alongside their daughter, Charlotte, said: ‘We’re also hoping to hop 5K in the Easter Bunny Dash in the spring! Watch this space’.
