Falmouth festivities

On one of our busiest delivery days of the year, colleagues in Falmouth held a buffet and ‘open hour’ for senior managers, local dignitaries, and the Cornwall Samaritans.
The open hour was the brainchild of delivery office manager, Andy Blight, to give the community an insight into what actually takes place inside one of our delivery units.
Throughout the festive season, colleagues helped fundraise more than £500 for the Samaritans, a cause close to Andy’s heart as both he and his wife work as listening volunteers for the charity.
After Andy gave a speech welcoming the guests, delivery leader, Joe Massey, addressed colleagues thanking them for their hard work not only during the Christmas period, but throughout 2018.
Cornwall Samaritans director, Sue Wright, thanked colleagues for their support and gave a small insight into the work the Samaritans do. Delivery manager, Simon Mills, then presented postman, Tony Parker, with 40 cans of Strongbow cider, one for every year he has worked for the business. Simon also thanked postmen Nick Stobie and Jim Owen for their respective 46 and 43 years of service.
BBC Radio Cornwall held a live broadcast from the office and interviewed a number of colleagues. Cornwall Live also did a live Facebook broadcast where Simon Mills, with no less than 38 Christmases behind him, was interviewed.
‘The team contributed greatly to a really enjoyable morning for our guests with all the delivery work carrying on as normal,’ said Andy. ‘A few people went away seeing a different side to our operation and how their parcels and letters get to them.
‘We held a Christmas jumper day and raffle on the previous Friday, organised by Buddy Rasmussen and Sam Weight, and during that week the team were also treated to Hotdog Monday, Sit Down Breakfast Tuesday and Bacon Sandwich Friday.’
