All the young dudes

Throughout this week we’re sharing stories from around the business to highlight our inclusion campaign - Altogether Different.
Karl Leeder is a customer advisor in our account claims team. He is also a member of our Youth & Friends steering group.
‘I have been working for Royal Mail for eight years now, having joined Royal Mail a month before my 19th birthday,’ said Karl.
‘I currently work in the complaints department working for our account claims team in Plymouth. I complete claims for our business account holders and refund them for lost, damaged and/or delayed items of mail.
‘When I joined the business in 2011 I was only planning to stay for 12 months before returning to college to start a plumbing course. But after just a couple of months here I started to really enjoy my role working on consumer P58 claims, and decided to stick around for a little bit longer.
‘After moving onto business P58 claims and then successfully applying to join the accounts claims team I now really enjoy the work I do talking to business customers. For my next little project, I would love to learn how the digital technology team work, bringing new technology to the company.
‘As a young person working for the business I feel valued as I know there aren’t so many younger colleagues working here. It’s really good to have a wide mix of differently aged staff working for such a big organisation as Royal Mail.
‘I believe we should aim to continue employing young people as they will always be familiar with new and emerging technology. They will also be really enthusiastic about getting into work and full of ideas about how we can improve in all areas of the business.’

Supporting younger colleagues
[]
Making our business a place where young people can achieve their potential remains a priority.
Royal Mail’s Youth & Friends steering group is looking to engage with our younger colleagues across the business. To join, find out more about the network, share ideas and feedback or suggest ways we can engage with younger colleagues better, please email youthnetwork@royalmail.com.
There is also a closed Facebook group for employees aged 16-24 and their supporters. To join, all you need to do is email youthnetwork@royalmail.com with your name, location, employee number and the email address that you use to sign in to Facebook and we will send you an invite.
