Sleepout success

Six colleagues from County Durham and surrounds, braved below zero temperatures in a sponsored sleepout in aid of our charity partner, Action for Children.
Barnard Castle delivery office manager, John Small, who organised the event, joined Tees Valley operations manager, Jamie Walton, Wear Valley delivery office manager Lee Sedman, Middlesborough postwoman, Laura Wilson, Coulby Newham delivery office manager, Darren Kidman and Northallerton delivery office manager, Andrew Waters.
The spirited six weathered the elements to raise more than £3,000, with matched giving, for children who are suffering from, or who are at risk of developing, mental health issues.
‘My Charity Champion, John Small organised the sleepout, having completed one with another colleague in the summer,’ said Jamie.
‘In our summer fundraising we managed to raise £3,000 (matched to £6,000), which I believe was the best of any OM team.
‘We agreed to do this sleepout in the winter, as homelessness is an issue all year round, but it was very cold! Thankfully, the wind and rain were bearable as we had lots of layers to keep us warm.
‘We had a great night, and it was brilliant for a bit of team building, despite the lack of sleep. We all enjoyed taking part, especially for such a worthwhile charity – something which really spurred us on. It was well worth the sleepless night!
‘I’m very proud of the team for their efforts. Thank you to everyone for all their kind donations. The whole sector is now committed to a foodbank event too... so watch this space.’
