Help us keep the business moving by using yorks efficiently

Our peak period means lots more parcels are moving through our network, and more parcels means using more yorks.

Play the video below to hear more on this from Logistics director, Euan McMurdo.

At this busy time, it’s challenging but critical to make sure we use yorks efficiently to drive improvement, lower costs and provide our customers with their items on time.

It’s an area where Preston delivery office were underperforming. But, by introducing small changes they’ve significantly turned their results around.

National container supply manager, Jason Wood, said: ‘There was an issue of yorks being scattered around the depot. Now they put the focus on making sure they’re all together, ready for the distribution driver to collect and get them back into the network.’

Delivery line manager, Richard Makinson, said: ‘We make sure that nothing is being used inappropriately, and we make sure that everything is being nested so that when distribution do come, it’s presented easily for them to collect and get items into the network as quickly as possible

‘The amount of yorks we have in the network is limited and so we have to ensure that every york we have is being used properly.’

Remember, it’s everyone’s responsibility to ensure yorks are used correctly:

  • Never store broken or surplus equipment or rubbish in yorks
  • All offices and centres must ensure empty yorks are ready to be moved
  • If your delivery office repatriation service doesn’t arrive to collect empty yorks, or you have surplus trolleys on site, arrange collection with your local distribution site.
