Free flu jab for Royal Mail and Parcelforce colleagues this winter

Flu continues to be one of our most significant causes of absence during the winter months.

Remember, this year, we are offering every colleague - who is not already entitled to a free NHS flu jab - the opportunity to receive one at a Lloyds Pharmacy. So far, however, only around 5,000 colleagues have taken up this offer, a very small percentage of our population.

Carlton Hall, licence development and implementation manager, said: ‘I’ve had my flu jab directly via my GP surgery for the last six years because I qualify for a free jab, so haven’t taken advantage of the Royal Mail offer – but I think it’s a brilliant idea.

‘I think it’s important to dispel various myths about the jab such as “the flu jab could give you flu” and something I’ve heard in our office, “I heard someone had the jab and they felt ill for days”.

‘The fact that the jab doesn’t cover you for every last strain of flu is irrelevant, the point is, it lowers your risk of getting flu. For those colleagues who have had the real thing i.e “proper” flu, they would know that it is definitely something to be avoided.

‘For the vast majority of people, the flu jab is quick and easy, it doesn’t hurt and it certainly doesn’t make you ill.’

Those eligible to receive a free NHS flu jab include the over 65s, pregnant women, those who receive a carer’s allowance, and people with certain long-term health conditions. Click here to find out more.

If you are eligible for a free NHS flu jab the voucher does not apply to you and you should access the provision via your GP.

To receive your flu jab please visit a branch of Lloyds Pharmacy with the voucher provided with the September issue of Courier and your Royal Mail ID card.

Your manager can print another copy if you have lost or misplaced yours.

It is recommended that you contact your local branch of Lloyds Pharmacy in advance to make an appointment as demand for the flu jab is likely to be high. To find your local branch, visit www.lloydspharmacy.com.

Managers can click here to access a question and answer page to assist them with any questions they may receive.
