Worth a shot

Edinburgh colleagues show how our free flu jab offer is your best shot at stopping the flu

Last year, Edinburgh South delivery office had six delivery colleagues struck down with the flu virus. As a result, they lost 23 days and 172 hours to sick absence.

This year, delivery office manager, Steven Crow, decided to do something a little different with his flu messaging and so went along with CWU rep, Barry Collins and postwoman, Louise Paluchowski, who caught the flu herself last winter, to their local Lloyds Pharmacy to get vaccinated.

‘As Edinburgh South delivery office was directly affected by the flu virus last Christmas it was a no brainer to get those most at risk and those who suffered last year along to a Lloyds Pharmacy to receive their free flu jab,’ said Steven.

‘It made sense not only from an operational perspective, but it is also important to do whatever it takes to keep our people fit and healthy over the festive period. I personally received the jab to ensure I give myself the best chance of fighting the flu this Christmas to allow me to oversee my office delivering Christmas to our customers.’

Flu continues to be one of our most significant causes of absence during the winter months. Remember, this year, we are offering every colleague - who is not already entitled to a free NHS flu jab - the opportunity to receive one at a Lloyds Pharmacy. So far, however, only around 5,000 colleagues have taken up this offer - a very small percentage of our population.

Those eligible to receive a free NHS flu jab include the over 65s, pregnant women, those who receive a carer’s allowance, and people with certain long-term health conditions. Click here to find out more.

If you are eligible for a free NHS flu jab the voucher does not apply to you and you should access the provision via your GP.

To receive your flu jab please visit a branch of Lloyds Pharmacy with the voucher provided with the September issue of Courier and your Royal Mail ID card.

Your manager can print another copy if you have lost or misplaced yours.

It is recommended that you contact your local branch of Lloyds Pharmacy in advance to make an appointment as demand for the flu jab is likely to be high. To find your local branch, visit www.lloydspharmacy.com.
