How you can help in preparing young people for the world of work

Royal Mail has been supporting the charity, Career Ready for a number of years through colleagues volunteering to become mentors to year 12 students.

Mentors provide one-on-one coaching and can also get involved with delivering bite-sized masterclasses in topics such as CV writing and interview techniques.

Career Ready supports the charity, Think Logistics - an industry led organisation set up to deliver interactive workshops to students. The workshop provides an overview of the types of career and opportunities available within logistics and includes an exercise, which focuses on collaboration and planning.

A total of 25 Royal Mail Career Ready mentors have now been given training in how to run the workshops, and activity is now being carried out around the country.

Senior people manager and talent lead for Logisitics, Nadine Kemp, co-ordinates the Think Logistics workshops on behalf of Royal Mail.

‘In the last three months we have delivered workshops to 125 students with more than 60% now considering a career in Logistics,’ said Nadine. ‘Given the focus on technology and the aging workforce, it is vital that we attract young adults into our industry. The workshops allow us to do that in a very cost-effective way’.

If you would like to get involved in any of the above activity, please email Nadine at: nadine.kemp@royalmail.com.
