Route to success

Our deployment of PDA Outdoor Actuals data, designed to ensure every colleague and team has a fair and balanced workload, is now complete.
The technology records the position of the PDA as users move around their walks, giving us access to vital information on the outdoor operation.
A successful trial period was held in partnership with the CWU. The full roll-out further demonstrates why we made significant investment in our PDA technology.
Warrington delivery office was one of the early deployment sites in the North West. Chris Carpenter, assistant delivery office manager, said: ‘We ran trials on walks that were causing issues, in terms of matching resource to workload. By asking an experienced workplace coach to investigate and using the live data we could work together on the best course of action.’
‘This is going to help us resolve issues more decisively,’ added Stuart Williams, postman and CWU rep.
'It takes the emotion out of the conversation and gives us a strong basis to resource effectively and offer support where it's needed most. By using data to make positive changes we've proven it can be done. I’d encourage everyone to embrace it.’
Dave Tickle, postman and workplace coach, said: ‘Having factual information to make decisions that help the entire team is crucial.’
Raj Tailor, PDA Outdoor Actuals project manager, said: ‘PDA Outdoor Actuals is at a really exciting stage and every Delivery and Collections unit is now live with the dashboard.
'We’ve upskilled more than 4,300 managers and union reps. They’ve been integral to the process and helped us at launch events across the country.
‘Our early deployment sites in Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales have quickly seen the benefits in terms of ensuring fairer and balanced workloads. Now it’s a case of embedding the process more widely.
‘It’s all about giving our colleagues the ability to have more meaningful conversations around challenges they face on their routes. We’re confident the technology gives them the platform to do that.’
