Enhanced service

Meeting the needs of our overseas posting customers

We must continue to improve our scanning performance of international barcoded items.

The ‘International Post Exprès’ and ‘International Registered’ products are extremely important for our overseas posting customers. These customers pay an enhanced rate for both of these services, which we only receive if we provide exceptional quality of service and scanning.

Regardless of where our customers are in the world, we need to ensure we always maintain our customer promise and ensure that both products feature on our tracking system.

Doing so ensures that we provide customers with visibility of their items through our pipeline, and can confirm when items have been delivered. It also ensures we are paid fairly for delivering post from overseas.

Two key import products for which quality and delivery scanning performance is measured and reported include:

Exprès (also known as Post Exprès)

  • For customers who want a fast and reliable, tracked international service
  • Items carry an ‘L’ prefix 1D barcode and display a Post Exprès logo
  • Items are dispatched through the Special Delivery network
  • Items require an attempted delivery and/or a delivery scan.

Registered

  • For customers looking for security, convenience and value for money
  • Items carry an ‘R’ prefix 1D barcode and display an ‘R’ logo (‘R’ printed on label or hand written)
  • At our International Processing Centres (ILC or HWDC), Registered mail is split into two streams, based on its country of origin:
  1. Enhanced Prime - items are processed and dispatched, mixed with Exprès items, through the Special Delivery network
  2. Prime or non-Prime - items are dispatched mixed with standard items and should be treated the same as Royal Mail Signed For items
  • All Registered items require an attempted delivery and/or delivery scan and signature on delivery.

All colleagues must be familiar with the different types of international barcoded products. Systems developer, Gurwinder Rai, said: ‘As International barcoded volumes continue to grow, it’s really important delivery teams are aware of their doorstep scanning performance on International barcoded products.

‘Strong scanning performance helps the business to minimise revenue leakage, as we get paid up to £2 per item and minimise compensation claims providing we capture doorstep scans.’
