Royal Mail and the CWU have signed a joint agreement outlining the modern dress standards for colleagues.

The agreement recognises thatuniform is ‘fundamental to the image of Royal Mail’, while also recognising the benefits of having the appropriate workwear for employees that is designed for the job.

It outlines a commitment to ensuring that the standards are consistent of the company values and demonstrate:

  • Our business image
  • Colleague comfort
  • Health and safety
  • Tools for the job.

The agreement also highlights what the uniform allocation is, how to order uniform and how the organisation is committed to developing our uniform.

David Dunn, head of special events, assets and containers, said: ‘An agreement like this is really important as it not only demonstrates how valued the uniform is to both Royal Mail and its employees, it also signifies that we are at one with our union when it comes to the standards we expect on all aspects of our uniform.

‘This should be a reassurance to our uniform-wearing colleagues that we are all working together to ensure the uniform continues to be an integral part of the Royal Mail heritage, while developing it to be fit for the future.’

Mark Baulch, outdoor secretary at the CWU, added: ‘I continually hear from CWU members how important the uniform is to them so we're pleased that this joint commitment ensures it will remain that way. We will continue working together to make it the best uniform possible.’
