We Are Royal Mail

Mohammed Miah, known as Mo, works as a postman at Cardiff mail centre and is an accredited CWU rep for the late shift. His role also involves training new recruits and acting as one of the first aiders on site.
As an active CWU rep since 2011, Mo is proud to represent and support other members of the team. He says it’s challenging to balance operational and union duties.
Mo often carries out administrative work for his union role and works hard to negotiate ‘a happy medium’ between what the business wants and what members expect.
Mo says he has to be both a good communicator and listener. ‘You can’t be inward and you have to make an effort with people. That echoes in the whole mode of the place.’
Working together is central to the mail centre’s success and Mo has been a vital part of the process for the last 17 years. ‘It’s all about teamwork’ said Mo. ‘You can’t achieve anything here without the help of others around you.’
A few years ago, the mail centre was selected as a trial site for barcode scanning. ‘What we did in Cardiff was echoed around the whole country and we were praised for coming together and working as a team,’ said Mo.
