Vote 100

Celebrating our amazing Royal Mail women – Amanda Peters

Her selfless and caring nature is just one reason why driver Amanda Peters, from Edinburgh mail centre, has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.

Driver Shane Scott, from Edinburgh mail centre, said: ‘My reason for nominating Amanda is that she does so much to help her colleagues. She is such a selfless, hardworking and caring woman.

‘She is also a champion for the Children Hospices across Scotland (CHAS), for which she has raised thousands of pounds over the years.

‘Amanda has helped me numerous times over the last 20 years with her kindness and compassion. People like her don’t come along every day in this life.’

‘I joined Royal Mail just over 26 years ago on 15 June 1992,’ said Amanda. ‘During my career I have worked in various posts within the business, but for the last 20 years, I have worked within the traffic office.

‘I enjoy my job, as every day presents new challenges, dealing with weather issues and vehicle availability. My current manager, Duncan McLeod, feels that I am a vital cog in the successful running of the nightshift operation.

‘I enjoy working with my colleagues and managers in a professional and relaxing environment and I still keep in touch with former colleagues and update the team on their wellbeing. I have been told that I am a caring person, but that’s just who I am as it’s the way I was brought up to be.

‘With the fantastic support and generosity of my colleagues, drivers and managerial staff within the unit, we have raised thousands of pounds for CHAS over the years.

‘I was quite surprised to hear that I have been nominated for the Vote 100 campaign, as I don’t see myself to be any more special than anyone else - I just do my job. I treat people with kindness and respect as that’s how I expect to be treated myself. I enjoy working within Royal Mail and I can’t think of a more worthwhile career.’
