Celebrating our amazing Royal Mail women – Joanne Reeves

Her professionalism and hardworking nature are just two reasons why postwoman Joanne Reeves from Cardiff mail centre has been nominated for our Vote 100 campaign.

Andrew Colclough, late shift manager at Cardiff mail centre, said: ‘Having worked at Royal Mail for 20 years Joanne has supported the late shift in various parts of the operation. As a workplace coach on the shift, she always carries out her duties with the utmost professionalism.

‘Joanne always ensures that the priority service locker is not only fully-functional on a day-to-day basis, but she takes a keen interest in any quality defects that occur. Having a strong customer and quality-focussed background Joanne uses the data surrounding Special Deliveries to have coaching conversations with her team to ensure that everyone understands the impact they have to the overall quality of service that we provide.

‘Always demonstrating our values, Joanne is a fantastic asset to the team and someone that everyone on the shift respects and admires. I truly thank Joanne for all the hard work and effort she puts in every day.’

‘When I first started working in the registered locker it wasn’t the happiest place to work. People did mixed shifts and didn’t really get on with each other,’ said Joanne. ‘That was around seven years ago. Now we have a great team. There are no more mixed shifts, lots of different colleagues and everyone is a lot happier.

‘Although it can be a little challenging at times, for instance - after bank holidays or during the Christmas season, but generally everything goes well. Cardiff mail centre is quite a big office and there is a lot of machinery and many different areas to work in. I’ve done a few different jobs over the years - I think it’s that variety that I like about my work here.

‘When I first started I was a keyer for the IMPS. Then I was a letter and packet sorter.  I’ve worked in the caller’s office and done night shifts and mornings – the full Monty as they say. My 20 years has flown by. I get on well with managers and colleagues and I’m now a work-place coach in the registered locker. I count myself lucky.’
