Positive progress

The team at Malton collection office is now 20% female, reflecting our wider shift towards a more gender-balanced workforce in Royal Mail.
All but one of the female colleagues joined within the past three years, which has had a great impact on the team.
‘The team is constantly producing top results,’ said collection sector manager Paul King. ‘I’m recruiting the best candidates, it just so happens that of late, they’ve been women.
‘They’ve been a really positive influence. It's a lot calmer and people generally seem happier.'
Malton’s longest serving female colleague, Lizzie Routledge, has been a collections driver for nearly 25 years. She agrees that recruiting more women was a good move for the team.
‘It’s definitely nice to have more of a balance now,’ said Lizzie.
Fellow collections driver Sue Slann hopes more women will be encouraged to join. She said: ‘When I’m out and about I’ve been stopped by women who are interested in my job – they’ll say, “I quite fancy doing that myself”’.
Supporting female colleagues
Making our business a place where women can achieve their potential remains a priority. To support this work and ensure we have a balance of men and women across the organisation we have established our Women's steering group. We also have our Springboard women’s development programme, which is designed to support frontline women to take on new challenges and gain confidence.
