Offering financial aid to colleagues, pensioners and their families in times of need

Following our Rowland Hill Fund fundraising week last month, our in-house charity needs you to continue raising money for colleagues in need.

From cake baking in Castleford, running in Runcorn to quizzing in Queniborough, the aim is to have some fun and raise as much cash as possible.

Thanks to you, we were able to help Royal Mail colleague Nick – who doesn’t want to be named in full – with rent arrears. He has worked for Royal Mail for 19 years and underwent several operations after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Unfortunately the cancer returned and is spreading quicker than expected. His treatment, together with Crohn’s disease, made him very ill and resulted in a period of sick leave. The fund was very pleased to be able to help.

Former postman Paul Hyne received £2,000 for a mobility scooter

Paul needed a mobility scooter after being Ill Health Retired by Royal Mail after 34 years’ service.

Paul began his career at Royal Mail in 1976 as a telegram boy. After 34 years of loyal service he had to leave the business in 2010 following a series of strokes which left him unable to walk. The strokes also had an adverse effect on his memory, making everyday tasks very difficult to carry out.

Sadly, Paul was recently diagnosed with vascular dementia which has caused a great deal of distress for both himself and his partner Elizabeth, further impacting on his mobility and quality of life.

The fund was delighted to pay for a mobility scooter for Paul and we have been told that it has significantly increased his quality of life.

The Fund is aiming to raise £160,000 for 2018/19. The money will be invested directly into helping our colleagues.
