Building sound minds

Following World Mental Health Day, our charity partner, Action for Children has launched their new emotional well-being campaign, ‘Build Sound Minds’.
Action for Children see first-hand the differences that can be made when they intervene early to transform a child’s life. When a young person’s mental and emotional well-being is nurtured, their resilience increases, making them better prepared for the challenges of life.
The aim of the campaign is to tackle issues such as stress, anxiety, loneliness and low self-esteem, providing parents with the information, tools and tips they need to promote good mental health and help both their children and themselves deal with the stresses and strains of growing up today.
Angharad’s story
Angharad is a young ambassador for Action for Children. At just 21 years of age, she has already faced and overcome more hurdles than many of us will ever face. When she was just two years-old she and her seven siblings were placed in foster care. Five years later, she witnessed her sister die in a tragic accident.
Angharad lived in several foster placements until she turned 18 and rented independently. But after her landlord made her feel unsafe, she became homeless and now lives in supported lodgings. Her turbulent upbringing left Angharad with anxiety and depression, but thanks to Action for Children, she is now able to manage.
