Wheel with care

Maintaining safe operating procedures when moving containers

There have been two recent accidents involving colleagues pushing york containers and striking the heels of team members.

The safe movement of yorks, while ensuring a safe distance between containers that colleagues are pushing and those within close proximity, is essential in avoiding preventable injuries.

Safety tips

  • Always ensure you concentrate when pushing wheeled equipment and avoid any distractions
  • Always maintain a safe distance from the person in front
  • Only handle one piece of wheeled equipment at any one time
  • Use yellow handles at all times. DO NOT pull or freewheel containers
  • Never push overloaded containers
  • To ensure you maintain good forward vision, remove any items from above the frame of the container
  • When moving nested yorks, ensure you follow our recognised safe methods.
